Innovation Academy, sponsored by Building Momentum, is a youth education program focused on problem-solving designed to integrate Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics to cultivate critical thinking, creativity, and innovation among students.

The City of Alexandria’s Department of Transportation & Environmental Services is reaching out to the community for input regarding the concept design options proposed for the Holland Lane Corridor Improvements Project. The purpose of this project is to create a safer, more accessible, and comfortable travel experience for people of all ages, abilities and travel modes along Holland Lane, from Duke Street to Eisenhower Avenue.  

Come take part in the PNC Parkway Classic on April 28th! This scenic race course through Alexandria. The 5K race will start and end at Oronoco Bay Park. There are also options to run the 10mi race from Mount Vernon to Oronoco Bay Park as well as a 600 meter kids dash. Register today!

The City of Alexandria Department of Recreation, Parks, and Cultural Activities will offer its Power-On Summer Camp Program for elementary-aged youth entering 1st – 6th grade in Fall 2024. One location will serve Power-Up program participants entering 6th – 10th grade in Fall 2024. Summer Camp will begin Monday, June 17, and end Friday, August 9, 2024.

Mark your calendars for George Washington's birthday parade on February 19 from 1:00-3:00 PM! In the 275th Anniversary year of the founding of Alexandria, the 2024 parade theme is George Washington: Alexandria’s Original Living Legend.The 2024 Parade Grand Marshals will be the Living Legends of Alexandria, a non-profit organization dedicated to honoring and chronicling individuals who have made significant contributions to the quality of life in Alexandria, Virginia. 

The Chamber ALX is hosting CareerCon on Friday, February 16, 2024 for high school and undergraduate students. Participants will be eligible to win a $4000 scholarship! Whether you are about to graduate from high school or already pursuing higher education, this program is for you! Returning in 2024 after a brilliant inaugural event, we are excited to connect Alexandria’s students, in both high school and college, with professionals working in industries of interest. Students will learn about the state of their future industries as well as essential curriculum skills for adult life.

The City of Alexandria Academy Programs are educational opportunities designed to inform, educate, engage and provide those who live or work in the City a better understanding of local government operations and services available to the community. Information and experiences gained will encourage participants to help foster a thriving Alexandria and help create meaningful opportunities to participate in local government in many different ways.

Last year, Alexandrians safely disposed of more than 2,600 pounds of unwanted and potentially dangerous medications. Rather than wait for a Drug Take Back day, many used permanent drop boxes located at Police Headquarters, Inova Alexandria Hospital and The Neighborhood Pharmacy. ASO partners with The Neighborhood Pharmacy and picked up 100 pounds there last month alone. Learn more about how you can safely dispose of unneeded prescription medications.
