Amtrak and VRE Partial Shutdown

Planned infrastructure upgrades south of Washington, D.C.’s Union Station will result in schedule adjustments impacting service to and from Virginia from October 16–26. The work is part of ongoing improvements designed to support more reliable service, and we appreciate your patience during the construction.

During the outage, Carolinian and Amtrak Virginia service will continue with a coordinated bus connection to and from Washington Union Station. Customers will be able to complete their trips by transferring between the train and bus.

VRE will operate a modified schedule during the outage to maintain daily train access to the Washington, D.C. area. VRE is working with its railroad partners to finalize a schedule that will serve all stations except Washington Union Station during the construction.

Once finalized, the modified VRE schedule will be shared with riders and published at vre.org/schedule.

Be sure to check the schedule before traveling and allow additional time for your trip.
